Come On, Blue Cross, Get Your Story Straight!

We had a health fair at work the other day, and I won a pair of ankle socks in a raffle.  Woo!

But that's not what this post is about.  I went down to the fair to grab the freebies and sign up for the drawings (which was obviously so worth it), and felt guilty for taking the tchotchkes they had to offer without taking any of the pamphlets and information.  So I grabbed a stack of those, planning to give them a once-over and then toss in the recycling.  I came across a "Stress Management" pamphlet published by BlueCross BlueShield, and just wanted to share a couple choice items for reducing stress:

Good Night's Sleep

  • Relax before bed with a hot bath, book or other relaxing activity

Time Management

  • Identify and avoid time wasters like the phone, TV, or the Internet.

Laughter

  • Treat yourself to a daily laugh to help lighten your mood.  The comics or a radio morning show should do the trick.
  • Watch comedy movies or TV shows on a regular basis.
  • Use the Internet to share jokes with friends, family, and co-workers.  This not only spreads joy but creates a social community.

It's obvious you're not intended to do everything they recommend on this pamphlet (there's about 65 things on the list, total), but at the very least, the people writing this should have avoided contradictory statements in their own literature!

LOL. Another instance when an editor would have been a good idea.

I have them, but I'd seriously hope they can pay better than give advice.
